Ballymena secured sixth place in Division 1B after this hard fought victory over Shannon at Eaton Park. The home side took an early lead after two minutes with a Rodger McBurney try, converted by McMaster. Josh McIlroy increased the Ballymena lead to 10 points with a long range penalty, but Shannon outhalf McKenna reduced the lead with a penalty to leave the half time score at 10-3. To this point Ballymena had been the dominant team, but a reinvigorated Shannon got the better of things in the second half and they were rewarded with a penalty try, converted by McKenna, to level the score at 10-10. Shannon were unable to make much headway against a determined Ballymena defence, and the deadlock was broken with only minutes to go when McIlroy kicked a penalty from the half way line to give the home side a much needed boost afte a run of defeats.
