Bears News

Bears on Tour   The Build Up
Last year the Ballymena Bears took part in the International Special Needs tag rugby Festival at Ravenhill home of Ulster rugby, which over 40 teams from all over Ireland and the UK attended. The event held on the 7th June was a huge success and both Big Bears and Bear Cub teams had a fantastic day of rugby culminating in the Bear Cubs winning the age group “fair play trophy”.
When invites went out therefore from Telford RFC in Shropshire to attend the 2015 festival the Bears haven’t hesitated in accepting and taking up the challenge of getting there for Saturday 6th June.
In order to travel and to try and financially support everyone who wants to go, the Bears are planning to organise a couple of big events to swell their funds:

  • Saturday 21st February 8pm Eaton Park – Bears Quiz Night, a table quiz to which everyone is welcome to enter a team at £5 a head. A raffle and refreshments will be available under the expert guidance of Alan McCandless and Brian Vincent, our two quizmasters for the night.

  • Saturday 21st March 2pm to 4.30pm – “The Bears Bounce a-thon” set to coincide with the 1st XV taking on the Belfast Harlequins in an Ulster League game. The Bears will attempt to complete sponsored 2000 bounces on bouncy castles set up around the clubhouse. The action will be complemented with a raffle and demo of some silky tag rugby skills.

The excitement is building and the Bears are well and truly up for the challenge. We will of course keep you posted on our progress, and in the meantime we would love to extend a warm invite to you all to attend our fund raising events. Look out Shropshire, the Bears are coming!
