League cricket finally got undeway today as the 2021 season kicked off with all three Saturday teams scheduled to play.

It turned out not to be the start the club was hoping for with the early 2s game called off due to the weather and then defeat for 1s and 3s, but nevertheless great to get started with some competitive cricket.

Against Derriaghy, the 1st XI scored 127-3 from their 20 overs, with runs from James Kennedy, John Glass and Michael Glass. In reply Derriaghy recovered well from the loss of an early wicket and were in the ascendancy in the opening overs. The 1s, however, pulled the visitors back with Sam Glass bowling a very tidy spell and it looked like the game was heading for a tight finish but some powerful hitting at the death saw Derriaghy ease to victory in the 19th over.

Meanwhile, the 3rd XI travelled to Belfast where they faced a competitive CIYMS 4th XI who posted 153 runs from their 20 overs. In response, the 3s came up 67 runs short but have much to build on for the coming season.
